Scouting Canyons by Air and by Land

Once we knew the Grand Canyon tour was out, Don arranged for us all to see Bryce Canyon by air … despite a little haze and the remaining smoke from the forest fires in Zion, it was amazing. We met Mr. Winters our pilot at Bryce Canyon Airport near Tropic, Utah and took turns boarding his four passenger Cessna for an aerial tour of the Canyon. “Bryce is not actually a canyon, but rather a giant natural amphitheater created by erosion along the eastern side of the Paunsaugent Plateau. Bryce is distinctive due to its unique geological structures, called hoodoos, formed from wind, water, and ice erosion of the river and lake bed sedimentary rocks. The red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views.” Yes indeed! We all enjoyed seeing the Hoodoos by air, it was a great adventure!

We drove through this tunnel, made by erosion on our way to the airport

Okay, the headsets were half the fun! Pilot to co-pilot ....

This is the hanger, the aiport was amazingly quaint and comfortable. While three were in the air, the other three played a friendly game of Aggravation, the board game ... yes, we brought it along and the names of the winners are marked in Sharpie on the board.
