Honoring Pop and Grandma at CLS's 7th Grade Grandparent's Day

On Thursday, Kimberly's 7th grade English class, lead by their teacher, Mrs. Denise Griney, hosted the first annual CLS Grandparent's Day. Pop and Grandma came from New Jersey to attend the tea. The students all wrote a story telling us about a memorable event in the life of one of their grandparents. For this assignment, Kimberly interviewed Pop and discovered the hidden story of his days on the High School track team.
Kimberly was very surprised that her grandparents were driving all the way from New Jersey for the tea, especially since it was held on the day of their 49th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Mensah made a beautiful cake for the event - it was very yummy!
First Kimberly read her story, and then she honored both of her grandparents. To Pop: Thank you for coming to important events in my life and for coming to sporting events too. It means a lot to me that you are here today. To Grandma: Thank you for always being caring and generous to me and my sisters. Happy Anniversary, I love you so much!
Pop
My grandfather just wanted to race, but what happened was amazing. When my grandfather was just 15 years old he went to talk to the head coach of the track team. He asked if he could race in the one mile. The coach said to talk to the seniors and they said to just follow them. After they heard the shot of the gun they were off. After they started the others were running too slow and my grandfather won his first race ever. His freshmen year he won the Century Jersey Championship Group 3. In his sophomore year he won the Mammouth County Championship. And in his last year of racing he won the Ocean City Championship, the Mammouth County Championship, and the Century Jersey Championship Group3. My grandfather held the record for the fastest time in the one mile for twenty-five years! That record was 4:42. My Pop's lesson is: when in doubt try something new.
Mrs. Griney held the event in honor of her mom. Thank you Denise for your example of serving and caring for others and for leading our students in honoring their Grandparents.
Thank you Pop and Grandma for spending your special day with us! We love you!

Baseball's last game at RFK Stadium

RFK Stadium in D.C. - We've enjoyed many Washington National baseball games at the stadium. Today was the Nats last day at the stadium. They beat Philly 5-3 - way to go!

The stadium ... The fans...
The players ...Memories ...
“Take me out to the ball game, take me out with the crowd; Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don't care if I never get back. Let me root, root, root for the home team, If they don't win, it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out, at the old ball game.”

The unofficial anthem of baseball by Jack Norworth written in 1908

See ya at the new stadium next spring - GO NATS!

CLS x-country team

The x-country team is brand spanking new at Covenant Life School this year. A new team, a new course, and a new coach … it’s all new to rookies Kendall and Corinne. The course is tough, the training is hard, the weather has been hot … but they have persevered! “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” 1Corinthians 9:24-27 Matt giving it his all to win the guys race - well done!
Janelle keeping up with the lead runner for the gals
Ben and Aaron coming in for the final stretch The boys team won the competition, the gals had second overall - great job for their very first meet!
An initiation dunk Thanks Doc for cleaning up the course
The Coach ... Todd Keeler
(if you followed our summer trip, you’ll remember Todd and Leanne and their family from Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs)
A tired fan Good Luck X-Country Cougars!!!!

We don't think so.
Treasured time together as a family - crossing the great United States
Seeing vast and wide the beauty of America
Coming home to family and friends
