Heading East! Through the Desert in Nevada to Idaho

Nevada to Idaho on our way to Wyoming!
We drove through the desert of Nevada and into Idaho on our way to Wyoming! Guess what friends of Corinne?!?! She drove on the “loneliest road in America.” So she has officially driven on our trip – please leave your kind comments! We took some time at breakfast in Pocatello to review our trip and came up with what we were most grateful for 21 days into our journey and a bunch of fun facts so far from our trip – here they are!

What we are very thankful for:
Rooms with two bathrooms
Our big, roomy, sturdy, dependable, trustworthy Suburban
The GPS system we borrowed from Emma and Todd (thank you!) It’s only steered us wrong a few times =)
Our big road atlas
Gumby who is still trying his hardest to keep us flexible
Our hotel points – we’ve enjoyed lots of hotel perks
Kids eat free at Holiday Inns
Comfy Crocks
Laundry facilities at the hotels – clean clothes
XM Radio!
The Jones and Naomi for taking such wonderful care of Aimee
The McMahons for holding down the fort for us back home
… and …
Don/Daddy for patiently leading all of us girls!
And here are some fun facts 21 days into our trip:

Best Coffee since we left Maryland: Sears Dining in San Francisco, Holiday Inn Pocatello, Idaho, some local coffee shop in Monterey, CA

Best beds: Kensington Park Hotel, San Francisco, CA

Best sofa bed: Courtyard Marriott, Saint Louis, MO

Best hotel breakfast buffet: Courtyard Marriott, Saint Louis, MO

Best lunch: Tie between Ruby’s Diner at Seal Beach, CA after surfing (best milkshakes!) and our late lunch early dinner at Santa Barbara Shellfish Company, Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara, CA

Best dinner: Houston’s (not the chain) in Kanab, Utah but Fino’s in San Francisco was a close second

Best snack: Sourdough bread bowl filled with clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf in Monterey, CA

Best French Fries: In-N-Out Burger
Best Ice Cream Scooper: Andi at Brusters in Gaithersburg!

Best Ice Cream (Varied Responses Here)
Daddy – Ghirardelli – San Francisco, California
Mommy – Wodfamchocsod at Witt’s End – Colorado Springs, CO
Corinne – Not sure yet – maybe A&W but loved Ruby’s too!
Kendall - Ghirardelli – San Francisco, California
Kimberly – Ted Drewes – St. Louis, MO
Christiana – A&W in Soda Springs, Idaho

Best food service – Susan at Fino’s in San Francisco, CA
Emerald at Holiday Inn, Pocatello, ID

Best funny dinner memory – Holiday Inn, Williams, AZ

Best Bell Hop – Keith at the Renaissance in Scottsdale, AZ for his tip about Trader Joe’s right behind the hotel!

Best Pool – Renaissance in Scottsdale, AZ because we had it mostly to ourselves, and the Holiday Inn, Pocatello, ID because it was fun!

Best Entertainment (free) – Western show in Page, Arizona

Best Entertainment (not free) – Speedboat on Lake Powell, AZ and tubing down the Portneuf River in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho
And … a few injuries:
Don’s feet – they are healing – thanks for praying!
Kimberly’s stubbed/sliced and bloody toe at the Saint Louis Arch – healed!
Kendall falling on the cobblestone street next to the trolley – not off the trolley thankfully!
Christiana’s little burn on her hand from the toaster - healing

And a few things lost along the way:
2 lost wedding bands
1 lost promise ring
1 lost turquoise earring in Lake Powell
1 lost Celebration band in Lake Powell
2 lost bunnies, but both were found, one being shipped to MD
… and …
1 lost retainer, but we drove back for it!

And … Gumby is still with us, riding shotgun in the front seat and making his way around the family to keep us flexible.

NOTE: Although Gumby is a great tool, the best tool we have along on our journey is God’s word –The Bible. It is keeping us grounded and pointing us back to Him and the Cross! 21 days together, 24/7 a family of four girls and a mom and dad, yes, you betcha there’s been conflict and lots to work through, but by God’s amazing grace, we are doing just that – working it through. Second best tool, The Young Peacemaker!

Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me, I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind but now I see. My chains are gone, I've been set free, my God my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood, His mercy reigns unending love, amazing grace.

And if the Tvardziks had come with you you would have had to have added at LEAST two emergancy room visits (maybe more)in your 'best of memory' itinerary. For that you can be happy we are not with you!!!!Oh what wonderful memories you are making!!!! We miss you!
