Breathtaking Yellowstone!

Wikipedia tells us that, "Yellowstone National Park became the world's first national park on March 1, 1872. Located mostly in the U.S. state of Wyoming, the park extends into Montana and Idaho. The park is known for its wildlife and geothermal features; Old Faithful Geyser is one of the most popular features in the park. Yellowstone National Park spans an area of 3,472 square miles, comprising lakes, canyons, rivers and mountain ranges."

We found Yellowstone to be one of the most intersting parks with all of its diversity. It was a full day traveling through the park, to geysers, pools, and waterfalls. Our favorite part was the north eastern corner of the park were we drove up to a herd of roaming buffalo. We were amazed at how close they came to the cars and how long it took us to get out of the park. We were happy to find ourselves in yet another state - Montana - where we stopped for a very late dinner at the Log Cabin Cafe. We dined on t-bone steak, chicken breast and local cutthroat trout. The stars were beautiful that night as we drove through the (seven) switchback turns on the Chief Joseph Highway on our way through the Beartooth Mountains.

We had about an hour wait for the Old Faithful geyser ....

It was worth the wait ... a spectacular sight!

Various pools throughout Yellowstone showing off their awesome colors
We saw elk ...
... and the White Cone Geyser
... and the Gibbon Falls

... and Tower Falls

... and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
... and finally, the open range where the Buffalo roam at the Northeast entrance (exit for us!)

They were right next to the road and a bit smelly ... =) ... and there were tons of them!

When they were finished with their roaming, we headed out of the park and into Montana.
After our late, yummy dinner, we headed east ... next stop Mount Rushmore and Sturgis, South Dakota "Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens... When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? ... Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Psalm 8
