Sunday was the long awaited grand opening of the brand new Nationals Park - home of the Washington Nationals! (we said goodbye to RFK in September -check out our archives!) We traveled to DC by caravan ... early enough to avoid traffic and long lines, with lots of time to explore the new stadium ... thanks Chris for making sure we left at 3pm for the 8pm game :)
Don found Redskins' quarterback Jason Campbell in the crowd ...
And got an autograph ... I love hanging out with my hubby! He makes every event so much fun! Love you! Since President Bush was throwing out the first pitch, the security was very tight ... we kept guessing which entrance he was coming through ...Don found Redskins' quarterback Jason Campbell in the crowd ...
Still plenty of time to explore the new stadium ...
We had a lot of fun with Jen and Dave ...
And Jean and Chris ...
At 5:45pm, we were just getting to our seats ... only two and half more hours until the first pitch ... off to find the nachos ...
Warm-ups ...
The Red Porch area is the outfield area where both of the home runs were hit ...
View from our section ...
We were thankful indeed that we got there so early and avoided the long, long lines. Thanks Chris!
As you can see by the clock, only 45 more minutes until the first pitch!
D.C. National Guard
Nick Johnson - Kimberly's favorite player has returned after missing the entire season last year
Okay, so I have a picture of the President on his way to the mound, and then after the pitch. I was so excited to see the first pitch, I didn't click the camera!
Now you would have thought I would be ready for the very first pitch, but again, just too excited to see it to click! So, here is the pitch for the first "out" at the new stadium ...
...and the first run scored! And if you're a true Nats fan and you stayed up very late to see the end of the game, you know that the Nats and Braves were tied in the bottom of the 9th, 2-2 ... it was late, and a bit chilly and I turned to Don and said Zimmerman just needs to end this with a home run ... and he did! What a fantastic game!

Fireworks and a storybook ending to the home opener at the new stadium!
